Synopsis: This song is a deft blend of traditional Afrobeat music, Sound Art, and Pop sound. It is a response to the oppression of the poor by the poor. It also talks about how hard it has become for third-world leaders to lead well because they carry a heavy history.
Relevant story :
A few years ago, somewhere around Lagos, I discussed with some folks. We had conversations about the quality of leadership that the Nigerian society needs to attain its full potential. This conversation led us to many other topics, including the inclusiveness of youth in government.
So, I mentioned that the Nigerian youths might as well have become busy with cybercrime, drug abuse, social media gossip, etc., but it might be dangerous to trust such minds with power. And for a decent society, for an excuse would not take the youth seriously.
I do cybercrime, and I am not ashamed of it. One of the folks said boldly to me. So I asked him why he chose cybercrime. In my head, I thought he would mention survival. Which I know could be the truth. But then he said he chose that path as payback for the white man’s slave trade era. Wow!
Right there, I became a little angry.
I asked him, When you get money from cybercrime, what do you do with it? He answered. I spoil myself, I buy a Benz, a Rolex, etc
I told him Please do not fool yourself, brother. You have given the white man’s entrepreneur back what belongs to them. And you have been successfully enslaved by a wrong idea called I pass my neighbor.
We discussed this event in the second verse of the song.
