In a music landscape often driven by fleeting trends, Sinmi Jay stands apart as an artist committed to creating work with meaning, cultural depth, and lasting impact.
Born into a family where music was woven into everyday life, the Lagos-based musician, songwriter, and creative entrepreneur developed his sound from a rich blend of influences. From the timeless artistry of Ebenezer Obey, Sunny Ade, Orlando Owoh, and Fela Kuti to global icons like Michael Jackson, Sinmi Jay’s musical education was both diverse and deeply rooted. Contemporary Nigerian artists including Tuface, Sound Sultan, Asa, and Style Plus further inspired his self-taught journey.
His professional career began in 2012 with the release of Ebo, a collaboration with Olamide that introduced audiences to an artist driven by a simple mission: to bring joy, light, and meaning into people’s lives through music.
In 2017, Sinmi Jay founded Gbadunsquad, a dynamic Lagos-based band that has grown into a distinctive force in modern African music. Combining Afrobeat, Juju, Highlife, Indie Pop, and electronic influences, the group creates music that bridges heritage and innovation while exploring themes of identity, unity, justice, and personal growth.
Their growing catalogue includes notable releases such as Yérorò, an Afrobeat fusion exploring tribal harmony; Supreme Deity, an uplifting Afro-soul reflection on the source of life; and Gbadunsquad, a vibrant celebration of culture, groove, and enjoyment.
Beyond the studio, Sinmi Jay & Gbadunsquad have built a reputation for compelling live performances, taking their sound to audiences across Africa and Europe, including appearances in Rwanda, Berlin, and France. Their energetic stage presence and authentic storytelling continue to attract a diverse and growing international audience.
At the heart of Sinmi Jay’s work is a belief that music is more than entertainment—it is a tool for social transformation. Through his artistry, he encourages mental wealth, cultural pride, self-government, and positive action, proving that music can nourish both the soul and society.
As he continues to expand his creative vision, Sinmi Jay remains dedicated to building a global movement with a distinctly African voice—one that celebrates joy, inspires purpose, and leaves a meaningful legacy.
